Obituary

On the evening of August 19, 2019, Harold Lee Reed, Sr. ascended to his final destination filled with our Master’s love.

On the 11th of April 1937, a beautiful baby boy was born to Everett Reed and Rena Charles in Coweta, Oklahoma. Harold and his sisters were reared by their grandmother, Ellen Charles after the death of their mother. Harold began his education in Coweta, Oklahoma and graduated from Red Bird High School.

Harold met and married the love of his life, Vernell Reed, on December 24, 1960. He was the loving and protecting father of seven children; three sons and four daughters.

Harold was employed at Bill White Chevrolet and Ferguson Pontiac. He was an exemplary employee with an almost perfect attendance record until his health began to fail. His strong work ethic and integrity was the foundation and legacy he instilled in his children and grandchildren. In addition to working hard Harold had several hobbies. He enjoyed listening to the Blues and the late B.B. King was his favorite blues artist. His two favorite sports were boxing and basketball. If you asked him he would tell you, “Muhammad Ali was good, but Joe Louis, “The Brown Bomber”, was the greatest boxer of all times” and his basketball team was the San Antonio Spurs. Old Western Movies and the television show, In the Heat of the Night were, his favorite shows to watch and he watched them faithfully. Harold was also an exceptional gardener and you could often find him in his garden in the corner of his backyard. In his heyday he loved hanging with his cousins and friends, Virgil “Sonny” Charles, Reuben and Scott Buyckes, and Thurman Dobbins. Harold was a gentle giant, a man of few words, and they had meaning. Harold had several nick names Slim, Uncle Sonny, Paw Paw, and he was affectionately called by his great grandson, K3 as “Paw Paw Chick Chick.”

On Tuesday evening while at home on August 19, 2019 Harold entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Vernell, his parents, grandmother, one daughter Anna, and four sisters, Lena, Margaret, Nadine, and Rutha Mae.

Harold leaves to cherish his memories Six children: Harold (Paula) Reed, Jr., Mt. Home, ID, Gerald (Tasha) Reed, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Marcus (Edith) Reed, Aurora, CO, Margaret Shorter, Ft.
