The Reflection of Mary’s Life

Mary L. Hill Hawkins was born to Dennis and Christana Hill on May 19, 1946 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She gained her heavenly wings on July 30, 2020. She accepted Christ at an early age. In her early years, she played basketball and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1964. She furthered her education at Langston University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She received her Master of Arts in Special Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She served and retired in Tulsa Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher. She joined Greater St. John AME under the leadership of Reverend B.S. Roberts. She was the president of the Working Warriors Church Support Group and also served as an Usher on the Usher Board. She loved her family dearly, and there was nothing she would not do for them. She was affectionally called “Tay” by her siblings.

Preceding her in death is her parents Dennis and Christana Hill and her sister Opal L. Hill Cotton. She leaves to mourn a daughter, Valencia Hawkins Payne, her son Leonard Dale Hawkins (Shelbie), two grandsons Bryan and Corey, four granddaughters Caryssa, Camrey, Morgan and Ariel and two great grandchildren, Bryan III and Queen Malaysia; her siblings, Ora Swain (Frank), Levell Hill (Dana), Pearl Hunter (Freddie), and Leon Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
