Wallace J. Thompson (W.J.) a.k.a. “The Governor” was born on December 20th, 1942, in Carthage, Texas, to the late Wallace and Joan Thompson. He accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Carthage. Also, Wallace attended Turner High School in Carthage where he played basketball and football. After high school, Wallace married his childhood sweetheart Willarjean Gray and moved to the Dallas, Texas area where they lived for many years and started a family. To their union two loving children were born, Greg Thompson and Deborah Thompson-Adams. Later on, Wallace met and married Ruth Perry and they made Sherman, Texas their home for many years until her death. They had a bouncing baby boy, Tiran Thompson. Wallace worked for TXU, Texas Energy Company for many years until his retirement. He then owned and operated Thompson’s Bar-b-que in Sherman. He was one of the founding members of the Members Only Social and Civic Club in Sherman, Texas where he was very involved in his community.
In 2002 Wallace came to Tulsa, OK for his friend, Pastor Sam Holmes’ birthday party where he met the former Madolyn Love. He later married the love of his life in a two-day celebration in Tulsa where he made his home for the later years of his life. Wallace loved football with his heart and soul and was the Dallas Cowboys biggest fan. Wallace loved everyone he met and met no strangers.
He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, brother, Melvin Thompson and sister, Helen Pope. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Madolyn of the home, his children, Greg Thompson of Dallas, Texas, Deborah Thompson-Adams of Dallas, Texas, Tiran Thompson of Lewisville, Texas and Step-son Clay Hopkins (Joanna) of Lancaster, Texas. He also leaves a goddaughter, Erika Campbell of Garland, Texas, sister, Jean Ingram of Dallas, Texas and brother, Larry Thompson (Jean) of Beckville, Texas.
Grandchildren cherishing his memory are Jamaal Thompson (Stacy) of Washington D.C., Ericka Walker and Ronisha Lankford of Dallas, Texas, Jelani, Asha, Kehinde’ and Vibra Hopkins of Lancaster, Texas, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew and many others seen as family and godchildren.
