Obituary

On October 24, 1955, a beautiful baby girl named Rene’ Yvonne Sampson was born to Nathaniel and Agnes Sampson in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Moton Memorial Hospital.  She was the fourth child and only girl of five children.

She attended Tulsa Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School’s Class of 1973.  After graduating, she lived briefly in Los Angeles, California.  While there, she took up some cosmetology courses.  Afterwards, she lived and worked in Kansas City, Missouri for many years before returning home to Tulsa, Oklahoma to raise her four children; Nakia S. Sampson (Arlington, TX), Sharion R. Sampson (Tulsa, OK), Antonio M. Sampson (Arlington, TX) Renesha A. Sampson (Tulsa, OK) and her grandson Malik N. Sampson (Tulsa, OK.)

Rene was spiritually grounded her entire life and had unwavering faith in God’s unchanging hands.

Rene was the anchor for her family, who had a tremendously giving spirit, that unselfishly helped anyone in need.  She was best known for her quick wit, comic relief as well as her infectious laughter that can be heard from a distance.  People were always naturally drawn to her.  She also thoroughly enjoyed singing, caring for animals, especially dogs and gardening.

She took pride in the fact that she was present for the births of all nine of her grandchildren and created life-long bonds and everlasting memories with each of them:  Kiare I. Hayes, Malik N. Sampson, Braylon J. Traylor, Darion D. Traylor, Zaniyah M. Sampson, Major L. Sampson, Manya L. Sampson, Myles A.  Sampson and Messiah A. Sampson.

Rene’s professional background includes employment with the United States Postal Service, as a mail carrier, and the Hospitality Industry before returning to school to receive an associate degree in Applied Science from Tulsa Community College in May of 1997.  She knew that a career in healthcare services, working with children and families was her innate and true calling, and ultimately spent 25 approximate years doing the work she loved.  Early in her career, she worked at St. John Medical Center, then went on to work at Morton Comprehensive Healthcare Services-Adult and Family Medicine (formerly named Moton).  She was honored to have been able to work at the same location of her birth. She also worked at Planned Parenthood before retiring to focus on her health and to spend more time with her beloved grandchildren.

On Saturday, October 23rd at 5:17 p.m., Rene’ transitioned peacefully while surrounded by her children, brother and close family members.

Rene’ leaves to cherish her memories, three brothers: Lee E. Johnson (Oklahoma City, OK), Wendall N. Sampson (Kansas City, Mo.) and James K. Sampson (Coweta, OK). Her children:  Nakia S. Sampson (Arlington, TX), Sharion R. Sampson (Tulsa, OK), Antonio M. Sampson (Arlington, TX) and Renesha A. Sampson (Tulsa, OK), nine grandchildren, her aunt: Barbara L. Haney (Kansas City, MO.) Best Friend: Shelia Colbert-Grimes (Tulsa, OK) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Nathaniel Sampson and Agnes B. James-Jones, Gerald W. Sampson (brother).
