Obituary

Rose Marie Dorsey was born in Grayson, Oklahoma to the late, Travis and Willie Cleofus Dorsey on January 15, 1939. She was reared in Grayson for a short while, however in 1948, the family moved from Grayson to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She attended Tulsa Public Schools. Graduating from the Historical Booker T. Washington High School in the Class of 1957.  After completing high school, Rose studied at Langston University and Northeastern State University earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Special Education. After she obtained her teaching degree, Rose starting teaching school in various communities. She taught school in Phoenix, Arizona and in the Dewar Public School System for three years as a Special Education teacher later joining the Okmulgee School system in 1976. Finally Rose was employed in Okmulgee Public Schools until 2006 where she retired from a career of teaching spanned over 37 years.

Rose had a love for God at an early age at Union Baptist Church of Grayson, OK.  In adult years she became dedicated member of the Lone Tree Baptist Church located in Morris, Oklahoma. Although she had no children of her own Rose exemplified her love for Christ through her character, smile, commitment and lifelong desire to assist children. She helped them excel to the best of their ability.

She was a loving person and loved her family. Rose was an avid traveler. While traveling or at home, shopping was a favorite pastime. But, nothing compared to her love for her family.

Meeting Rose at heavens gates will be her parents, Travis, Sr. and Willie Cleofus Dorsey; siblings, Teresa Williams, Gus Charles Dorsey, and Travis Dorsey, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Deroys “Bo-Bo”” Dorsey, Harry (Patricia) Dorsey, Harold Dorsey, Sr. and Thomas (Annette) Dorsey, Sr.; one sister, Sharon Dorsey (William) Barron; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other family and friends.
