Obituary

Ms. Norma Jean Williamson boarded the glory train to paradise on April 30, 2018. She was born March 4, 1944 in Beggs, Oklahoma to Arthur Manor and Carrie Williamson.

Norma Jean Williamson was born on March 4, 1944 in Beggs, Oklahoma to Carrie Williamson and Art Manor. She was raised in the loving home of Carrie and Willie Hammons.

Norma earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Langston University, where she was inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Norma went on to earn her Master of Arts in sociology from Atlanta University (Clark Atlanta University). While in the process of completing her Master’s, she was recruited and accepted a faculty position at Miami-Dade Community College, where she taught social studies and sociology. During a faculty meeting, Norma and Astrid Karona Mack’s eyes met across the room. They had their first date the following day and began a courtship that led them to Michigan, where Astrid earned his Ph.D. in Genetics.

Norma and Astrid married and returned to Miami, where they had two children, Astrid Kyle and Kristen Nichole.

Norma later left teaching to become a social worker at Family Health Center, followed by several years of service with the Miami-Dade County Department of Children and Families, until she retired and moved back to Oklahoma to be closer to her maternal family. She continued her lifelong pursuit of learning by earning her Doctor of Education from Oklahoma State University.

Norma had a smile that could fill the room with light and love. She was gregarious and charming, and made the impossible seem possible. She had a keen sense of style. The woman knew how to wear a hat.

Norma Jean Williamson transitioned from this life on April 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents Carrie Brown (Wilray), Art Manor, and Willie Hammons; brothers, Tony, Otis Ray, Dennis Earl, and Jerry; niece, Adriuna Cole.
