Obituary

Our beloved Mickey June Jones was born on June 12, 1964, to the parents of June Maxine Jones, Ruben Jones, Sr. & Earl Goree Sr.

Mickey June, as many would call her, spent her educational years attending Wiley Post, Walt Whitman, Monroe, Gilcrease, and lastly Bixby public schools.

Mickey June loved plants, and being naturally athletic growing up, she was a self-taught gymnast. She loved softball, children and had a passion for good rap music.

While she may have never married, she was a loyal, loving mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. This is evidenced by Mickey June being affectionately known as “Sugar Momma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lord knows how much she loved all of her children.

While one’s life can be misunderstood, Mickey June’s life was no different, if one is willing to recognize it. She was wise beyond her years, loved hard despite having to present a tougher demeanor to protect her heart. She made mistakes all the while helping teach others around her not to fall into the same traps and pitfalls. Love comes in many expressions, and Mickey June could definitely fill a basket with each of her expressions of love, loyalty, and dedication. She knew she wasn’t perfect, so she didn’t
expect others to be more perfect than herself. It is in this that life, and love, and forgiveness are
understood. No one gets out of this life perfect, but it is on us to do our best to be our best, giving our best selves, and letting the Lord sort out the rest when it gets there. If Mickey June had one last message for us all, I’m sure it would simply be, “I love you,” or a playful “Hey, I fight kids…” Whichever moment you got to experience, there was love underneath the tone if you could just look for it or listen for it. And it would be understated to say that Mickey June Jones loved us, even while many were still learning how to love her for who she was to each of us.

Life’s not perfect, but it’s worth it, if you live it right with a lot of love, equally forgiveness, a little bit of extra effort, and a touch of a sense of humor. And if Mickey June didn’t give us something to laugh about, love, or forgive for, well, then she just might not have been the Mickey June, or Sugar Momma, that we have all come to know and love in some way. Mickey June Jones will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, Ruben Jones Sr., and Earl Goree, Sr. and sister, Lillie Carol Smith.

She is survived by her mother, June, siblings:  Carlton Jackson, Ruben Jones, Jr., Arleen McHenry, Kenneth Jones, Allison Renee Jones; 18 additional siblings on her father’s side,  special friend, Christine Kelly (there till the very end), three children: Scott Jones, Tracie Smith, and Vanessa Montgomery; five grandchildren: Aiashain, Scottez, Scottazia, Shamari, and
Shania; and two great grandchildren: Ty’Nyla and Novia; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Christ Temple CME Church, 2802 N Lewis Ave, Tulsa, OK 74110.
