Obituary

On November 5, 1956 a beautiful baby girl was born to Henry Edwards, Sr. and Joyce Banks-Edwards in Eufaula, Oklahoma.

Marie accepted Christ at an early age with Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend L.J. Thompson.

Marie graduated from McClain High School in 1974. She joined the Army National Guard Reserve, serving 3 years. She then completed LPN nursing school. She worked at St. Francis Hospital here in Tulsa for many years. She also provided private duty services for many people.

Marie loved her family but her pride and joy was her son, Lil’ Kent and her grandchildren, Destenee, Tayveon, and Trè. Marie loved her special friends, Erlinda Houston, Diane Johnson, and Deborah Wooding, dearly. They were the “posse and dirty.” Every weekend they cooked, joined in fellowship together, and celebrating each other’s birthday. Today is Deborah’s birthday, the 16th, so Marie is planning something.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hunter, Sr., son, Kenneth Hunter, Jr., daughter, Kori Hunter, brother, Henry Edwards, Jr., father, Henry Edwards, Sr., and sister,
Hortense Edwards.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Joyce Johnson, grandchildren: Destenee, Tayveon, and Kenneth Hunter III; sisters, Linda Johnson and Lisa Edwards, step-sisters, Wanda (Ernest) Dean and Martha Green, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Hunter will be held on Thursday, July 15, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home, 2103 E. 3rd Street, Tulsa, OK 74104.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16, 11:00 a.m., at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2823 N. Frankfort Ave., Tulsa, OK followed by interment at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
