Obituary

Jeanne “Kitty Smith” Long began her songs in the key of life on July 1, 1953. Her proud parents were N.A. and Hazel Butler Smith.

“School days, school days, dear old golden rules days.” Jeanne attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Sapulpa High School with the “Radical” Class of 1971. She also attended Tulsa Job Corps and Tulsa Junior College.

“Aren’t they lovely, aren’t they wonderful, aren’t they so precious, made from love”. Jeanne gave birth to two wonderful sons, Elmer Jr. “Tuffy” and Christopher “Chip”.

“In every life we have some trouble so don’t worry, be happy.” Jeanne had a zest for life. She loved good food, good friends and a good game of bid whiz and spades. She would travel from house to house to find a good game.

“Now let us sing ‘til the power of the Lord comes down” Jeanne loved music. She sang in the choir at Calvary Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church. She served as a director with a firm hand, reminding the members to “Wear your robes”. She sang in several Mass Choirs in area churches. She worked in the Women Missionary Society on various local, district and state levels.

“And I think to myself, what a wonderful world”.Jeanne was community minded. She was a member of the Booker T. Washington Alumni Club and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Society where served as secretary until her health failed.

“Save the last dance for me, cause I’m free, praise the Lord I’m free” Jeanne hit her last note and sang her last tune in the songs in the key of her life on October 8, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents, NA and Hazel; son, Christopher “Chip”; sister, Virginia “Sugar”; brother, Wayne “Buster”; husbands, Elmer James Taylor Sr., Jimmie Lee Hackney and Larry Long.

Those left with wonderful memories are, Son, Elmer Jr. (Tuffy); stepdaughter, Tonya (Darnell); sisters, Jackie (Frank) and Harriet; grandchildren, Katanna (Jamarion), Tyler, Jordan, Samara Taylor, Elysa Taylor, Derrick Knight, Jr. and K’rean Knight; great-grandchildren, Jamia, Jayla and Laniyah Knight and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jeanne L. Long 66, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma will be held 11:00am, Friday, November 8, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church in Sapulpa. Burial will follow at North Heights Cemetery.
