Obituary

In Boynton, Oklahoma, on March 23, 1935 a beautiful baby girl, Etha Mae was born to Wendell Oliver and Rosie Lee Hutchinson. She was the second of nine children.

Etha accepted the Lord at an early age, she united with Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Etha attended Phyllis Wheatley and graduated with the class of 1953. She married the love of her life, Ted Curtis December 1, 1955. Etha was a sales associate for Zale’s Jewelers and retired after 25 years of service.

Etha joined Greater St. John A.M.E. in 1966. She served on the Trustee board, Finance committee, Hall of Fame member of conference WMS, area Chair person #1, past Worthey Matron of Golden Rule #117, OES District Deputy, most Ancient Matron EE Byrd #29, previous member of ZOAN #61 DOI, and past Loyal Lady Ruler Ruth assembly. She was also a member of the Daughters of Jericho, Golden Rule and Herons of Jericho.

Preceding Etha in death are her parents, and four sisters. Erma Hutchinson, Josephine Benton, Elinor Hutchinson, and Betty Alexander.

God called Etha home August 6, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband Ted Curtis of the home, sisters, Patty (Ardie) Minor of Oklahoma City, OK, Rose (Rudolph) Gouthier of Okmulgee, OK, brothers, Stanley (Rhoda) Rhine and Patrick Rhine,Jr. (Brenda) Rhine of Tulsa, Ok; Sister-in-law, Lavern Martin of Chicago, IL. Etha also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

On August 6, 2018 Mrs. Etha Mae Curtis of Tulsa, Oklahoma began her journey to her “Heavenly home” Funeral services will be Saturday August 11, 2018 11:00am St. John A.M.E. with Rev. Magnus Scott, Eulogist.

Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery at Boynton, Oklahoma with Visitation Friday 3:00pm til 8:00pm Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home 2103 East 3rd Street Tulsa, Oklahoma 74104. “When caring truly matter,DYER cares.” 918-425-5549
