Obituary

On Sunday, September 10, 1964, a handsome loving baby boy was the 3rd child born to Willa Mae Randles-Buyckes and Ruben Henry Buyckes Sr. Ruben Henry Buyckes Jr., referred to by many family members as “Jr.” was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

While growing up in his former childhood years, Ruben attended Sam Houston Elementary,Gilcrease Middle School, McLain High School, and received his diploma from Nathan Hale High School. He was the skinny basketball player in middle school and played percussion specializing with drums for the High School band. A special memory Ruben would brag about was meeting the artist Prince in Minneapolis, Minnesota while he performed with McLain High School in a band competition. He was known to be always on the go, loved to dance, loved to eat, and always had a good story. Often he would share his imaginary stories(lies) and life beyond Tulsa with his siblings.

Ruben started his career as an independent contractor, starting his very own business doing what he loved most in service and cleaning. He believed in being a working man and taking care of his family. It was clear that family was his number one priority because he made sure to consistently talk to loved ones every day. For example, a positive father figure, known to support academics and music, always came to the house, didn’t make you feel bad for making mistakes, gave good advice and guidance.

Ruben also loved his nieces and nephews. We all would love to see him coming because he brought lots of love and life to the family. He would often be heard when speaking with his friends, him saying, “What up dawg!”. He loved people, enjoyed life, and lived it to the fullest. Ruben left footprints in the lives of many people and shall be remembered by him smiling and saying “it’s going to be “alright.” He definitely had a big heart and tried to be there for any and everyone..

Ruben was preceded in death by his father Ruben H. Buyckes Sr. He leaves a legacy and cherished memories to his mother Willa Mae Randles-Buyckes, significant other Ajuania Ellis-Buyckes, daughters Megan Buyckes and Courtni Ellis-Anyanwu. Sisters and a brother Angelia Buyckes-Asberry, Felicia Buyckes-Wimbrey, and Avery Buyckes. A grandchild Noah and a host of several nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, relatives, and friends, who will miss him dearly.
