A Celebration of Life

On July 31, 1964 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sherman Jess Patterson, Sr. and Barbara Ann Travis welcomed into this world a beautiful baby boy, Sherman Jess Patterson, Jr. On the morning of February 16, 2020, the Lord released Sherman of all his earthly pain and called him home to rest in eternal peace.

Sherman was a very kind spirited person. He never shied away from saying exactly what he was thinking. As a child, he loved to explore the wooded area behind our house for hours searching for any form of excitement possible. One of Sherman’s favorite holidays was the 4th of July. He would have the entire neighborhood running for cover as he fired off chasers and pop bottle rockets in all directions. Needless to say, Mom and Sherman spent a few of those nights in the emergency room. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his highly decorated bike through the streets of north Tulsa with his huge posse of friends. When Sherman became old enough to drive, he saved every cent of his money to buy a classic black 1967 Ford Thunderbird with the infamous suicide doors. Along with the shiny flashy classic car, Sherman felt it only appropriate to nick name himself “Killer Sherm.”

Sherman attended Tulsa public schools and graduated from Raymond S McLain High School in 1982 where he played his favorite sports, football and basketball. He has always been an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Sherman relocated to Dallas Texas in 1990 where he worked many years in the construction industry and become a sought after Cement Mason.

Prior to becoming ill, Sherman relocated back to Oklahoma be closer to his family. During his leisure time, he would spend hours listening to his Old School R&B music and of course, his favorite rapper Tupac ShaKur!

Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Sr. and Barbara Ann.

He leaves to cherish his children: Carmeshia “Precious” Patterson, (Josh), Pebbles Davis of Tulsa; Shamar Patterson of Dallas Tx. Sisters: Natalie and Sonya Patterson, Patrice Yarbrough (Rico), Keishia Manore (Chris), Keyona Sims of Tulsa Ok; Marqua Jimmerson (Antwain), and Leah Patterson of Texas. Grandchildren: Dallas, Jayce, Johanna, and Marqurion; along with a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
