On October 26, 1955 a baby boy was born to the union of Earl and Demetris West, who was given the name Michael Anthony West. Michael was the second of three boys born to the union. Both parents preceded him in death.
Michael confessed Christ at an early age in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Paradise Baptist church. He attended Booker T. Washington high school where he graduated in 1973. Michael was a hard working young man who learned the value of a dollar at an early age and would often say “I’ve been chasing the dollar ever since”. He worked with his mother and brothers at the Tulsa Club as a young man, where he expressed was a solid foundation for his work ethic.
Michael attended the University of Oklahoma where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha when he crossed the burning sands into the Zeta Zeta Chapter in 1974. It was here he met the lovely Deborah Grayson. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from OU in 1977 and married Deborah a few years later in January of 1980. To this union two children were born – Megan Danielle West and Michael Anthony West Jr. (Tony).
Michael worked in the oil and gas field with Amoco and AHS as a Technology Manager for over 25 years. He finished his professional career working for the State of Oklahoma for 5 years before retiring in 2014.
Michael was a very intelligent and generous man who enjoyed learning, reading and initiating thought provoking conversations. He believed in working hard, enjoying life and spending time with his family. He would spend hours in the yard and even boasted about having “Yard of the Month” quite a few times in his neighborhood. He was respected by his family and loved by those who had the chance to truly get to know him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Deborah D. West; daughter, Megan D. Smith; son, Michael A. West Jr.; son in law, Jovan Smith; two grandchildren: Jasmyne M. Smith and Maliyah D. Smith; two brothers: Earl V. West Jr., Terrance T. West; three sister in laws: Barbara Clayton; Janice West; Celestine Grayson; three brother in laws: John Clayton, William Grayson Jr., Kenneth Grayson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
