Obituary

“On Monday November 05, 2018 Mr. John Paul “J P” Haney 84, Retired Owner of Haney Convenience Store of Tulsa, Oklahoma has travel up the Kings Highway to meet his maker.

John was born on May 7, 1934 in Inola, Oklahoma to Bennie Haney and Ardalia Cotton.

John always loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age under the pastoral care of Elder Carl Prather. He was an active member of Love Tabernacle Church until his health started to fail.

John attended Willow Springs Public Schools in Inola. He later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he then attended Carver Jr. High.

John was the apple of his mother’s eye. He was such a generous man. He was never idle, he was busy at all times. He loved working. As John became a young man, people started to refer to him as “Po P” and as time progressed he became known as “JP”.

As a young man JP worked for Harold Ash Asphalt. He worked for this company for 25 years. During this time he met and married his first wife, Barbara James. He and Barbara were the proud parents of two sons. In 1954, John married his second wife, Billie Jean Walker, to this union eight children were born. JP was a Dad to his children, family members and others. If you needed his help he was there, all you needed to do was ask.

JP later went to work for Forsman Asphalt. He worked for Forsman for over 27 years until his retirement in 2004. He was known for being a hard worker and that is how many people will remember him.

Meeting JP at Heaven’s gate will be his parents, Bennie Haney and Ardalia Cotton; children, Earnstine, Beverly, John Jr., Donnell. Ricky, John Paris and Johnnice; brothers, Raydene, Thomas, and Willie; sisters, Helen Jewel, Cloteel, and Helen “Ping” and Allie Mae.

To cherish his memories are John’s children, Karen (Michael) Haney-Warner, Sandra Haney-Martin, Ronnell Haney, Terrence Haney, John Edward Haney, Ricka Lyon and Zaye Brown; a (Son-in-love) Ernest Sanders; two sisters, Emma Anderson and Florence Anderson; two brothers, Frank Cotton and Ladell Anderson. 37 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday November 14, 2018 in New Jerusalem Baptist Church 3427 N. Birmingham Ave. Tulsa, Oklahoma 74107 with The Rev. Tony Maxville, Sr.

Burial will follow in Willow Spring Cemetery Inola, Oklahoma with Visitation Tuesday 10:00am till 8:00pm November 13, 2018 Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Memorial Chapel 2103 East 3rd Street Tulsa, Oklahoma 74104.
