Obituary

The Lord’s promised was fulfilled for Rev. James Charles Walton on April 17, 2019 to come back and receive him unto himself that wherever he is there he shall be also.

James was born January 17, 1934 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Clarence and Louise (Ward) Walton. When his mother passed, James’ father along with his six children, Truly Mae, Mary Irene, Lillie Mae, Dorse, Clarence Jr. and James the youngest relocated to Oklahoma. Being taught to work hard and take care of himself was how James was reared. Learning to share early in life, he was always giving far more than he received.

God blessed James’s belief that, God would bless what so ever you put your hands to. (Duet 28:12) His profession was a master automobile painter for Midwest Chevrolet, Ford Company, Joe Johnson Body Shop and a shop located at his home. He had a very successful lawn care business. After retiring from painting, he was a driver for Ragsdale Funeral Home and worked as a crossing guard for Jenks Public Schools until his health no longer allowed him to continue.

James confessed an affiliation with Christ many years ago. He was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church and he had a melodious voice beyond belief. He sang tenor for the Oklahoma Jubilees for over 25 years. In 1966, God called him to the ministry. He accepted the called and was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He pastored many different churches, Vister Chapel A.M.E. Nowata, Oklahoma, Rentie Chapel A.M.E., Tulsa, Oklahoma. James along with his wife, Elizabeth (Wise) Walton pastored Camp Chapel A.M.E., West Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bethel A.M.E., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Bethel A.M.E. Claremore, Oklahoma. When he retired from pastoring in the A.M.E. Church, God gave him a vision to continue to lead His people. James founded the God’s Refuge Temple in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he and his wife co-pastored until a few years ago. He remain as an overseer of this church until his transition to glory.

James was passionate about being a provider, husband and a father. He was married twice in his younger years with his first wife; he adored being the father of seven children, Iris, Robert, James, Willie, Randy and Trudy. He later became the proud father of five children, Carmen, William, Victor, Twyla and Tiffany from his second marriage. On April 27, 1980, God blessed him to marry Elizabeth (Wise) and with this union came four more children, Ronald, Druscilla, Deneen and Randle whom he was delighted to be a part of their lives. James always wanted a big family after the death of his mother at the age of 3, and being raised by his older sister, Lillie Mae until he turned 18, he would take God and family very seriously. With grace and pure determination and with the power of God, James loved and treated every one of the children like they were his very own. He called them all his sons and daughters and gave unconditional love and support. He always showed them that he believed in them. He looked forward to Father’s Day picnic every year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dorse, Clarence Jr.; son, Robert Walton; sisters, Truly Mae and Mary Irene; a son-in-law, Manuel Anderson; grandsons, Kevin and JC.

James leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life for the past 39 years, Mrs. Elizabeth (Wise) Walton. His children, Iris Anderson, James (Marchella) Walton all of Coffeyville, Kansas; Carmen Reynolds, Rochelle Walton, Willie (Tammy) Walton, William Scott, Victor Walton, Randy (Antoinette) Walton, Trudy Walton, and Twyla (Andre’) Brown all of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Tiffany Walton of Taft, Oklahoma and Ronald Wise, Druscilla Johnson, Deneen Williams and Randle Walker his loving remaining sister, Lillie Mae Flemons; brother-in-law, Eugene Towers both of Bartlesville, Oklahoma a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews cousins and a special son, David King and two lifelong friends, Rev.
