Obituary
On January 22, 1947 in Grayson, Oklahoma the late Travis and Willie C. Dorsey was blessed and strengthened with their seventh of nine children. This bright bundle of joy was given the name Gus Charles Dorsey. Those who know him and love simply called him “Sango”
In 1948 along with his family, Gus moved to Tulsa where he received his early education through Tulsa Public Schools attending Dunbar Elementary School. He later relocated to Omaha, Nebraska to finish his formal education.
Gus met and later married LeNora Beasley and this union was blessed with a son, Barry Dorsey this marriage was later dissolved.
Gus found gainful employment in auto body repair where he loved to tinker, paint and remove dents from wrecked vehicles. After returning home to Grayson, he labored as a maintenance man in the Tulsa area. Gus gift and talent for farming made room for him and it became resourceful income for over thirty years. He grew fruits and vegetables in which everyone looked forward to the harvest. He was known to many as the “Vegetable Man.” Gus proclaimed himself as a good cook, barbeque was one of his specialties and he bragged about it but he just loved to cook and feed family and friends.
Gus accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age attending Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of T. Oscar Chappelle and after relocating to Grayson, Oklahoma, he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Dewar, Oklahoma under the pastorage of Pastor Ryan Wells for many years.
Although his body became weak, his faith in God remained strong. On Sunday, January 20, 2019 early in the morning, Gus slumbered into eternity to receive eternal rest. To be forever reunited with his parents, Travis and Willie C. Dorsey; a sister, Theresa Williams.
Left to cherish his fond memories are: his son, Barry Dorsey; two grandchildren, Destany and Barry, Jr.; his siblings, Deroys (Lillie) Dorsey, Rose M. Davis both of Grayson, OK, Harry D. (Patricia) Dorsey of Tulsa, OK, Harry D. Dorsey of Grayson, OK, Sharon Dorsey (William) Barron of Tulsa, OK, Thomas (Annette)Dorsey of Tulsa, OK, Travis Dorsey of Muskogee, OK; a special friend, Renee Rogers and granddaughter who knows him as “Paw-Paw” Kandra Rogers; along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends.
Home Going celebration will be 10:00am Saturday January 26, 2019 in First Baptist Church of Dewar, Oklahoma with Dr. Audie Swinny, Eulogist. Burial will follow in Hawkins Cemetery, Hoffman, Oklahoma.
Visitation for “Sango” will be Friday 3:00 pm til 5:30 pm family will meet friends 6:00 pm til 8:00 pm Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Memorial Chapel 2103 East 3rd Street Tulsa, Oklahoma 74104.
