Obituary

Derrick Lamont Bowler was born on May 29, 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Carl and Helen Bowler. He was the only son born to this union.

Derrick confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He joined Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C.L. Potter where he served as a Junior Usher; he sang in the Youth Choir, he also was a member of the Royal Ambassador where Rev. OB Baul and Nathaniel Goodwin were leaders.

As a child, Derrick attended Walt Whitman Elementary School, Gilcrease Middle School later attending Central High School thru 10th & 11th grade and transfered to McLain High School in January 1985 where he graduated with honors. After completing high school, Derrick took a liking for cooking and decided to study culinary arts. He later became a cook at Oral Roberts University for 12 years and later employed at Tulsa University. He maintained his cooking career at different locations in the Tulsa area.

Derrick was a family person always full of jokes. We called him the class clown.

Derrick was later blessed to be a father of a baby girl affectionately named, Teesa he was fond of being a parent and he would often say that, “She looks so much like me.” He later met Sandra Jefferson and as a couple they became a blended family until the were blessed with a baby boy. Derrick awaited with anticipation for the day that he would be old enough to play football and basketball. The relationship later dissolved but the relationship for the children remained.

On December 1, 2018, after six months of mourning the passing of his father Carl Bowler. God called Derrick home to be reunited with him.
