Obituary
Mary Jane Johnson, affectionally known as Nanny Jean, Ms. Jean, Ms. Mary, 77 peacefully entered the gates of heaven on January 29th, 2025, in Tulsa, OK. Born on March 4th, 1947, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Jean was born, to the late Junius Abraham and Marina Benjamin Abraham. As the oldest of five, she helped to mold the lives of her siblings Freddie Sr, Emelda, Ruby and Robert. She guided her siblings with wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. She was a true caregiver in every sense of the word, always ready to lend a helping hand, provide a listening ear, or share words of wisdom or a prayer.
She graduated from Paul Breaux High School in 1965.
Jean was employed by University of Louisiana (formerly USL) for 33 years as a night supervisor, touching the lives of many young ladies who lived in Baker Hughes dormitory.
In 1978 she dedicated her life to the Lord at Lively Stone Holiness Church. There, she was a cherished member of the Prayer Band, the Usher Board, the Ladies Auxiliary, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Her dedication to these ministries reflected her deep faith and unwavering commitment to serving her community with love and compassion.
Her children, Renee, Robin, and Robert were the loves of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Jean had a deep love for traveling and cherished the moments spent with her family. She took great joy in cooking, baking, crocheting, and sewing. Even as her health declined, she remained a steadfast source of comfort and refuge for those around her, providing warmth and kindness with a truly generous spirit. Her ability to give from the heart and share her love made a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her steadfast commitment to the Lord. She demonstrated an unwavering faith in God, trusting in His plan and guidance during both joyful and challenging times. Jean was a prayer warrior, she led a life dedicated to God and served as an inspiration to others, encouraging them to embody similar qualities in their own lives.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Robert Dalcour and Alvin Johnson. Her parents Junius and Marina Benjamin Abraham, brother Freddie Abraham Sr, and sister Emelda Allen and her nieces Iris Amphy, Roxanne Young and Michelle Abraham.
She leaves behind cherished memories of her children: Renee (Patrick) Simon, Robin (Geronn) Tunley, Robert Dalcour II, as well as her siblings Rev. Wilbert (Emma) Abraham, Ethel (Elder Rickey) Duffy. Her grandchildren Drake (Danielle) Simon, Iris Dalcour, Geronn Jr., Kayla, Janae and Cierra Tunley. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends and loved ones. Additionally, she leaves behind her bonus daughter Megan Sodowsky, mother of Iris Dalcour, Godchildren: Emmanuel Abraham, Rickey Duffy Jr and Raquel Duffy.
