Obituary

On May 30, 1931, in DeBerry, Texas, God blessed Edgar and Mary Thomas with a beautiful baby girl whom they named, Lorese Lucille Thomas. She was the first of four children. Lorese grew up in Marshall, Texas where she attended school until graduating from Elgian Fields High School in 1950, as salutatorian, along with her best friend Beulah Jernigan. She later relocated to Tulsa, OK where she met the Delancy Crisp, Sr. They immediately knew they had something special. Delancy and Lorese married in 1950 and their union blossomed for 53 years until the passing of Delancy Crisp, Sr. in 2003.

Delancy and Lorese Crisp had seven children, Delancy, Jr., Vivian, David, Elizabeth, Patrice, Kelvin, and Timothy.

Lorese was a domestic engineer and played a vital role in the families she worked for, establishing long-lasting relationships and appreciation for the role she played in nurturing their children. While raising her own children, she was able to provide comfort and security for other families and always opened her door to anyone in need.

Lorese had a close, intimate relationship with the Lord. She raised her children under the grace of God and instilled in them the importance of servitude. She was a long-standing member of Progressive Baptist Church for many years. She later answered her calling, and became a founding member of Capernaum Missionary Baptist Church, where she served until her last days.

Lorese held a humble spirit. Her meekness spoke volumes. Whether partaking in her role as church mother, providing a listening ear, or including you in her round of check-up calls, she made sure those around her knew she cared deeply.

Lorese was proceeded in death by her husband, Delancy Crisp, Sr.; her parents, Edgar Thomas, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Thomas; her brother, Edgar Thomas, Jr; her sister, Maudree Hemingway; her granddaughter, Daphne Jones-Kendall; and great-granddaughter, Kelis Jones-Kendall.

Lorese leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Delancy Crisp, Jr, (Gwen), Vivian Diane Beckett, David Crisp, Elizabeth Kaye Carter (Donald Ray), Patrice “Pat” Crisp, Kelvin “Bo” Crisp (Debbie), and Timothy “Tim” Crisp (Tasha); her sister, Teressa Louise Seaberry; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 18 great great-grandchildren; her best friend of 70 plus years, Beulah Jernigan; and a host of family and friends.
