Obituary

Miss Kathleen Erica Tyes was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 14,1966 from the union of Laura Ann Tyes and O.C. Taylor.

Kathy gave her life to Christ at a very young age and has been a long-standing, devout member of Morning Star Baptist Church and a Choir member for over 40 plus years. She was educated in the Tulsa Public School System and graduated from Tulsa Alva Edison in 1984. She furthered her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. In 2007, Kathy completed her Master’s Degree in Human Relations from Oklahoma State University, Tulsa Campus.

Kathy spent her career life making a difference in the lives of others who were afflicted with drug and alcohol addiction. She worked at 12 & 12 Substance Abuse Center over the last 25 years. Her passion for helping others drew her outside of her regular job, two additional days of the week, as she was also a DUI Instructor for many years.

She was fondly known by her family as “Queen Kathleen.” She was honest witty with a great sense of humor and lived her life dedicated to Christ. She loved her family, her church family, her choir family, and her friends. She had a very dear friend, Darren, who was her longtime companion over the last 40 years. She enjoyed traveling with the church and relished in the joy of her family trips.

In the last several years, Kathy had experienced many health challenges. She didn’t complain, and she continued her work until those challenges overtook her. In her 57th year of life, on her FAVORITE day of the week, God, in His Glory, granted her a crown of eternal life and her wings on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

She leaves to mourn; Her Nieces, her Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, her Aunts, her Uncle, her First Cousins, and a host of many friends who will miss her dearly. Kathy and her immediate family will be reunited again as they all preceded her in death: Mother, Laura Ann Tyes, Sister, Kim Elizabeth Tyes, Brother, Henry Keith Price, Nephew, Eric Charles Tyes-Coulter.

A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11 AM at Morning Star Baptist Church located at 1014 E Pine St, Tulsa, OK, 74106. Dr, Pastor, Rodney A. Goss will officiate.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 5 PM until 8 PM at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home, located at 2103 E 3rd St, Tulsa, OK 74104.

  2. My thoughts and prayers go out to Kathy’s family and friends. May God give you peace and understanding during this time. I will miss my dear friend tremendously. We didn’t speak everyday nor frequently. But when we did, it was like old times. She knew my heart and I hers. She will always hold a special place in my heart as she was one of my best friends. We shared so many good stories together from high-school to college and beyond. May you rest in peace and know I will always love you.
