Obituary

Jimmie S. Foster, Jr. was born Dec. 1, 1957, to Jimmie S. Foster Sr. and Novella Foster in Tulsa, OK. Lovingly called Junior, he was the third of their five children. He cherished his late sisters Gina Caroll (Foster) and Avis Foster, and his remaining sisters Carol Kirkland, Dietra Foster and Cynthia Godbold, whom Jimmie was the wind beneath their wings. Jimmie transitioned to Heaven on February 27, 2025.

Jimmie valued education. He began his education at Robert Frost Elementary, attended Edison Junior High School, and was a proud member of the Booker T. Washington High School class of 1976, where he was an award-winning track star. He graduated with his associate’s degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College and then attended Langston University on a track scholarship. He was known as the fastest man on campus and renowned as the Doctor, the popular DJ who would rock you to sleep during the evening slot on the student radio station. He graduated from Langston University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.

Jimmie began his career at O’Brien Park, where he served the community with hard work, kindness, and dedication for 40 years. During this time, he mentored, counseled, and changed the lives of so many who came to O’Brien. He was a faithful fixture at the annual Easter egg hunt and Fall carnivals, the orchestrator of countless basketball tournaments, and a loving, yet challenging, aerobics instructor.

Jimmie later met Tia Rowland and together they had his only child, Jimmie S. Foster, III (Tre) on July 11, 1988. He was known by many titles but the most important to him was Dad. Tre and Jimmie had an inseparable father-son bond and became best friends. He was proud to continue his legacy with Tre.

Family was paramount to Jimmie. He looked forward to the Ward family reunions and would have “his suitcase by the door” a year in advance, complete with an outfit for every occasion. He took pride in seeing his family thrive and grow.

He is joining his mother, father, and sisters Gina Caroll (Foster) and Avis Foster who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Tre and Kim Foster, five grandchildren, including Tre’vius, K’ brielle, and Kween, his loving sisters, Dietra Foster, Cynthia Godbold, and Carol Kirkland. Additionally, his legacy includes a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, friends, and extended family
