Obituary

On the evening of October 14, 2018 Mr. Jack F. Griffin heard the “fluttering of Angels Wings” His farewell services will be Saturday 12:00 noon in St. John’s A.M.E. Church 1731 North Peoria St. Tulsa, Oklahoma 74106 with Senior Pastor Charles Smith.

On February 2nd, 1944, in the small town of Houlka, Mississippi, Fountain Griffin and Annie Rogers were blessed with their second of three sons together. They named him Jack Fountain Griffin. Unfortunately, Jack’s father passed when he was a small boy.

In pursuit of a more stable life, his mother took her 3 sons and moved to stay with family in Tullahassee, OK. After graduating from the Tullahassee public school system, Jack joined the United States Air Force in 1964, where he was stationed in Germany for most of his military assignment. After being released from active duty, Jack returned stateside to Tulsa, OK, and soon began working for C.E. Natco, Combustion Engineering division. While working as an electromagnetic crane operator, he was able to earn an Associate Degree in Technology, from Tulsa Junior College.

Jack took an associate systems representative position with Honeywell Information Systems in 1972. While providing technical support and software implementation with the company for 19 years, he progressed in many roles to become a technical supervisor in 1988. The Bull HN division of that company soon closed its U.S. offices, and Jack immediately went into business for himself. Contemporary Systems Services, “We Provide the Total Solution,” operated as a consulting, design, development, and implementation firm. Jack worked part-time with United States Junior Chamber of Commerce during this time as well. He graduated summa cum laude from the University Center of Tulsa with a BS in Computer Science also in 1988. This past June marked 25 years that Jack worked as a Systems Analyst with the Oklahoma State University at Tulsa, formerly known as UCAT.

On June 19th, 1976, Jack Griffin joined in holy matrimony with Dorothy Hand. This lasting union blessed them with two children, Terence Fountaine Taurice and Tamara Nicole Griffin.

Jack was an intelligent, mild-mannered man who served as a devoted husband, and father. Furthermore, he functioned as mentor, confidant, and somewhat father-figure to several nieces, nephews, and younger cousins. He was not a man of many words, however he made sure what little he did say was worth more than just his 2-cents. Before his health began to deteriorate, Jack enjoyed playing golf, DIY projects around the house, fishing, and watching old western movies in his spare time.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Fountain and Annie Griffin; two brothers Charles D. and John Robert Griffin; sister, Nettie May Pulliam (Hue Lee); nephew Larry Pulliam (Kathy), and grandson, Sir Kameron Malachi Griffin. He leaves cherished memories and his legacy continues with his dedicated wife of 42 years, Dorothy Griffin; one son, Terence Griffin (Margot); a daughter, Tamara Cephas (Cordal); a niece who he considered a daughter, Denetris Griffin; his sister-in-law, Vernell Griffin; a brother-n-law, Calvin Hand Jr. (Teresa) of Raleigh, NC; 4 grandchildren, Kaleb and Kai Griffin, Taylor and Noah Cephas; including 5 nieces, Annie Gates (James), Nettie Isabel (Jimmy), Sue Gunn (Willie), Glenda and Vickie Pulliam; with 2 nephews, Leon and David Pulliam (Mary), all from Mississippi, and a host of loving family here in Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Georgia as well. He will truly be missed by all his relatives and friends.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery Tullahassee, Oklahoma. “Visitation will be Friday 10:00am til 8:00pm Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Memorial Chapel 2103 East 3rd Street Tulsa, Oklahoma 74104.
