Obituary

When God looked down upon the earth and saw Gerry’s tired face, the Almighty closed his weary eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine.” On Monday, February 27th at the tender age of 63, Gerry L. Walker was called home peacefully after visitation from family.

Gerry was born December 26th, 1959, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Margaret Long, and David Walker Sr. who both predeceased him. Gerry
matriculated through elementary and secondary education in Tulsa and graduated from Raymond S. McLain Sr. High in 1978.   He was a Welder, graduating from Tulsa Welding school and a Cook by vocation and worked in the capacity of a cook for most of his life. Gerry went to the Marines right after high school, and was stationed in San Diego, California for two years.  Thank you for your service!

He was known as the life of the party and had an infectious laugh.  He was the ultimate “Storyteller”.  He was a self-proclaimed “Domonologist”!  He played so well that he would sometimes show his hand and still beat you!  Gerry loved
football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.  He also spent several years
coaching youth football.

Gerry met the love of his life while still in high school.  It was after his return from the service that he reunited and married Renee Jamison.  In this marriage, Gerry gained two bonus sons (James and Larry). To their union A baby daughter was born (Mahogany Walker).  Even after their unfortunate divorce, they maintained an inseparable bond that lasted through the end of his life.

Gerry had a massive stroke in 2017 which changed the course of his life. Facing his foe with grace, courage, and dignity, he spent the last 6 years willing himself to survive.  One of Gerry’s most precious achievements in life was being honored for his service as a Marine at the Leisure Village Nursing home with his proud family there to support him.

In the later years of his life, he shared a loving relationship with Lynn Moore and her children who adored him. Gerry also had a close bond with his Uncle KC, who visited him at the nursing home daily bringing him his favorite snacks, in
addition to his devoted brother Dwayne Henderson, who made sure he had the upmost care.

Gerry was proceeded in death by his mother, Margaret Henderson, his father,
David Walker, Sr. and his stepfather, Pastor Norman Wayne Henderson.

Gerry leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Mahogany Walker and
granddaughter Madison Calvert, his bonus sons James Grayson (Marie), and grandchildren Jordyn, Justice and James Jr., and Larry Smith, and grandchildren Liyah, and La Niyah, His Brothers David Walker Hawkins, Dwayne Henderson (CoJuan), J. Marvin Henderson (Cierrah), and Chris Thompson (Suzeth), his
Uncle KC  Long, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and other family and friends.
