Obituary

On September 9, 1945 in Shreveport, Louisiana a baby boy was born to Herman and Rosie Lee Travis, they named him Eugene. His family later to move to Holdenville, Oklahoma in 1963 were Eugene completed his education at Holdenville High School.

Eugene accepted Christ at an early age, he became a faithful member of Obedient Christian Center under the leadership of the late Bishop Clark G. Corbitt. He later moved his family to New Redeeming Faith until the church was closed.

Eugene joined the United States Army after graduating high school, serving his country in the Vietnam war. He retired after many years of service from the United States Reserves and began driving trucks across the country. He loved being on the road until his health began the fail in 1995.

Eugene met and married Joy Elaine Olden to this union one daughter Latoya was born.  He later married his second wife, to this union three children were born Preston, Latasha and LeRone. Once that marriage dissolved Eugene decided that he was destine to be with his one true love Joy after years apart the reunited in Holy matrimony for a second time.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Rosie Lee Travis, one sister Urastene “Red” Miles and one brother Herman “June” Travis.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Joy Elaine Travis; two daughters Latoya Jackson (Shermaine) of Tulsa, OK; Latasha Travis of Wetumka, OK; two sons Preston Travis, LeRone Travis both of Wetumka, OK; eight grandchildren; five sisters Eular Williams of Shreveport, LA; Francine Olden, Pauline Guerin (Larry) of Tulsa, OK, Lynn Coleman (Willie) of Long Island, NY; Shirley Landry of Riverside, CA and Claretta of Holdenville; two brothers Charles Travis and Gene Travis of Tulsa OK. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends he will truly be missed.

A public viewing will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 5-8pm at Butler Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be held at 10am on April 13, 2023 at St Andrew Baptist Church, 3115 N Garrison, Tulsa, OK 74106.  Graveside Service will be held in Ft. Gibson.
