Obituary
On July 4, 1945 Coleman Sr. and Esola Anderson Olden welcomed their ninth child into the world. They named her Elaine Joy Olden, and decided to raise her with a strong work ethic and religious background.
Elaine as she liked to be called accepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She became a faithful member of Obedient Christian Center under the leadership of the late Bishop Clark G. Corbitt. She later moved her family to New Redeeming Faith until the church was closed.
Elaine met and married Eugene Travis and later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma; God later blessed them with a daughter Latoya. Elaine and Eugene decided to take different life journeys, after years of being apart the true loves reunited in Holy matrimony for a second and final time.
Elaine loved caring for children, she discovered her gift and passion caring for kids at a young age. She worked for Ms. Ray’s Daycare for a few years. She later worked for St. John’s Medical Center Daycare for several years before deciding to open her own daycare Love Land Daycare. Her babies affectionally called her Mrs. Joya.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Coleman Sr. and Esola Anderson Olden. Her husband Eugene Travis. Six brothers Clois Olden, David Olden, Coleman Olden Jr, Tommy Olden, Robert Roff and Bill Olden. One sister Lillie Mae Olden Porter.
Elaine Joy leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Latoya Jackson (Shermaine) of Tulsa, OK, two grandsons Gage Banks, Dae-Lean Jackson of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Shermya Jackson of Tulsa, OK; one great-grandson D’lone Jackson of Tulsa, OK; three sisters Yvonne Olden, Clara Olden both of Tulsa, OK, Mae Francis Porter of Kennesaw, GA. Special niece Alisha Olden of Tulsa, OK; Adopted son Detrick Adkism of Dallas, TX; Adopted granddaughter Kara Minor of Tulsa, OK. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She will truly be missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15th from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at St. Andrews, followed by burial at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
