Obituary
Dr. Felicia “Lisa” Chappell was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 12, 1968, to the parentage Dr. Carolyn Chappell and Carl Vester Chappell
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Carolyn Chappell and Carl Vester Chappell.
She leaves to cherish her memories the beloved sister of MaQua (Missy) Chappell and host of family and friends.
Lisa graduated from Edison High School and pursued a lifelong passion for education. She went on to complete her higher education at:
- Tulsa Junior College (TJC) – Associate of Arts (1994)
- Northeastern State University – Bachelor of Science (1995)
Her dedication to education led her to serve as Vice Principal at Crosswinds Alternative School in Grand Prairie. In 2007, she earned a Master of Arts in Professional Development from Dallas Baptist University.
In 2009, Lisa became Assistant Principal at Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary. She later returned to Columbia State University to pursue a Doctorate, joining her mother in the program. Both mother and daughter graduated together with Ph.Ds., an achievement featured in the June 1996 issue of JET Magazine in a story celebrating the rare accomplishment of dual graduates from the same family.
Lisa’s career in education spanned decades, leaving a profound impact on countless students. Not content to stop there, she founded Texas Success Academy in 2011, an online K-12 school that provides educational access to both students and adults.
In addition to her educational accomplishments, Lisa was a successful entrepreneur, establishing several businesses, including:
- America’s Most Beautiful Baby Pageant
- Texas Success Academy (2011)
- Kind Loving Care LLC (2015)
- CBD Sacred Leaf (July 2019)
- CML Wellness Spa (2019)
Lisa was also an author, having self-published her book, Teacher’s Survival Guide A to Z, which became a valuable resource for educators. Deeply involved in her community, she was a part of numerous organizations such as the United States Christian Chamber of Commerce and the Th3rd Thursday Champion’s Luncheon. Through her nonprofit efforts, she helped provide scholarships for students and adults unable to afford their education at Texas Success Academy. Lisa’s generosity also extended to supporting various ministries and charitable organizations, including:
- Bill Winston Ministries
- Kenneth Copeland Ministries
- Jesse Duplantis Ministries
- Jerry Savelle Ministries
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Lisa was recognized for her contributions to the community with several awards, including:
- An Appreciation Award for judging the 1997 Miss Black Tulsa Pageant
- The Blue Zebra Women’s Association award (October 16, 2010)
Lisa’s legacy of faith, generosity, and dedication to education will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved her.
Services for Dr. Felicia Chappell will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 3:30pm-4:30pm at Crown Hill Cemetery.
