Obituary
In the winter of 1944, Armstard and Hettie (Humphrey) McHenry celebrated the birth of a baby girl on the 24th of February. They named her Dorothy Marie; born in Redbird, Oklahoma. She attended school at Miller Washington School in Redbird, Oklahoma and Porter High School. In her younger years she attended Wharton Chapel AME Church.
Dorothy met and married George Scarborough on July 20, 1961. Three sons were born to this union. They divorced and a relationship with Carl Collins produced her fourth son in 1967. Carl died on August 29, 1971. Dorothy married Clint Newton in August 1978. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2002.
Dorothy worked many years for Gatesway Foundation, ultimately retiring from Thrifty.
Family and faith were important to her. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. Dorothy has been a long time member of Central Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ray K. Gaines, current Pastor Mikeus Moore and Co-Pastor, Rev. Quincy Howard. She loved serving at her church and was always willing to help where needed. However; if you knew her, she was always on the “GO”, snow, rain, sleet and nothing would stop her.
On October 24, 2023, Dorothy tragically lost her life and went to her heavenly home. She was met at Heaven’s gate by her parents, husband Clint Newton and three brothers, Armstard McHenry Jr., Carl McHenry and James Delbert McHenry; sister, Bettye Sanders and half-sister, Ruth Nixon.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Gregory Scarborough (Jayla), Everett (Angie) Scarborough, Daniel “Chico” Scarborough, Raymond (Rozdi) Collins and Frank (Andradia) Newton; daughters, Tracy Newton, Carla Faye Newton and Nicole Newton; siblings, Lois M. Hopson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Elisie (Ervin) Jackson of Porter, Oklahoma, Elmer McHenry of Phoenix, Arizona, Linda Gaines of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Margaret McHenry of Coweta, Oklahoma and Brenda (Wallace) Simmons of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Dorothy Marie Newton passed away on October 24, 2023. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5pm-8pm at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home.
Services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Redbird at 10AM.
