Obituary

God saw I saw getting tired

So He did what He thought was best.

He came and stood beside me

and whispered, “Beverly, it’s time, come and rest.

You made no one a last farewell,

not even a good bye.

I was gone before you knew it

and only God knows why.

Beverly (MeMe) Barnes was born July 6, 1943, she was the second child of Arlene and William M. Reed Sr.  She was given the name MeMe by her brother William Jr., who she loved dearly.

Beverly attended Tulsa Public Schools She is a proud member of the Historic Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1962.

In 1964, she met the love of her life, Vohn Curtis Barnes and the were married in 1965. In July of 1965 they united a built a strong  family together and were blessed with Dale Reed, Shawna Durant, Terrence Barnes and Keith Barnes.

She held various jobs throughout her lifetime; however her last place of employment was with the Tulsa World. MeMe was gainfully employed there for more than twelve years.

If there ever was a person who was a free spirit, that person would be Beverly. Fear was not a part of her vocabulary, she feared nothing. Her heart was as big as the world. She was a woman of  character and compassion, she gave….. Freely without regrets. She gave to the homeless, money, clothing and food.  If she had it, you could have it. Beverly was everyone’s MeMaw and she will be missed by all.

On September 5, 2022 She is preceded in death by her husband, Vohn C. Barnes; two sons, Dale Reed and Terrence Barnes; her parents, Arlene and Williams M. Reed and a brother who was like a son, Ronald Reed.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her loving children, Shawna Durant; and Keith (Celeste) Barnes; her sister, Sheera (James) R.; two brothers, Williams M. Reed and Derek Reed; 17 grandchildren including a special grandson, KeJuan who she raised as her own; 27 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Erica Payne; a special niece she reared, Katrina Reed along with her two sons; 2 great- great grandchildren.  A host of other family and friends.
