Obituary

“On Sunday afternoon the name of Mrs. Lillian Ruth Howard 88, of Tulsa, Oklahoma was called from labor to reward.
Services:Saturday 2:00pm at Amazing Grace Christian Church 4929 S. Waco Ave. Tulsa, Oklahoma 74107.

Lillian Ruth (Jones) Howard, known as “Granny-Gran,” was born October 15, 1929 in Idabel, OK to the proud parents of Jack (Bo) Lee Howard and Lenola (Allison) Howard. She was the eldest daughter of five children born to their union.
Lillian received her early education from Slater Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Idabel. She also attended Langston University in Langston, OK.

During her childhood, Lillian was a member of Greenleaf C.O.G.I.C. in Idabel and was frequently requested, along with her siblings, to sing at Macedonia Baptist Church in Idabel.

After moving to Tulsa, Lillian met and married Nathaniel Jones. Lillian was a jack of all trades. She has worked for Bama Pie Company and Hilton Inn. She was known for her legendary cooking; i,e, sweet potato pies, fried chicken, and sweet tea; just to name a few. Lillian was someone easy to talk to. You could phone her at any time and she would provide a listening ear and words of wisdom. Lillian was always upbeat. When asked how she felt, her response would always be, “I won’t complain.” Known as Granny-Gran, she was the neighborhood babysitter, a hairdresser, and a grandmother to all. Her love for her family was limitless and she looked forward to family gatherings. Some of her favorite activities were sightseeing to see Christmas lights and watching parades. Her spirit was infectious and she never met a stranger. To meet her once was to know her for a lifetime.

On the afternoon of December 10, 2017, Lillian Howard received her wings to be with our Lord and Savior. Lillian’s mother and father; daughters, Vorcie Renee Howard and Glenda Ruth Howard; son-in-law, James Leroy Armstrong; siblings Ada Mae Webb, Melvin (M.T.) Howard, and Delbert Howard all preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing daughter, Linda Joyce Howard; son, Jackie (Pamela) Jones; daughter, Phyllis Ann Armstrong-Howard; and daughter, Tarita Gail Howard all of Tulsa; one nephew, Juan Price (Oklahoma City) whom she helped raise as a son; one living sister, Carrie Lollis (Wichita, KS); grandchildren Markia Davis (Tulsa); Carmarnita (Reggie) Higgins (Henryetta, OK); Shakeal (Damion) Henderson (Athens, GA); Tammie (Tommie) Armstrong (Tulsa); Chantele (Demario) Burks (Tulsa); DeMarco Howard (Tulsa), James Armstrong-Farley (Tulsa); Jacqualine (Teddy) Duckett (Marietta, GA); Sharita Howard (Tulsa); Jameisha Armstrong (Tulsa); LaTasha Rosiji (Tulsa) and Eriyelle Henderson (Tulsa). She also leaves 26 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens Skiatook, Oklahoma
