Obituary
On Sunday May 07, 2017 Mrs. Carita C. Lewis eyes saw the “Glory of the coming of the Lord” She survived by her 3 children of the home, Caylah, Matthew and Nicholas Lewis. CaRita Chrystell Lewis began her journey on February 27th 1957 in Tulsa Oklahoma to the proud parents of Willie L. Lewis and Norma J. Lewis. She was the sixth born of eight children to which she was the twin sister of LaNita Lynell Lewis.
She successfully completed her primary education at Charles S. Johnson through Tulsa Public Schools. She also enjoyed participating in charities or any charitable event. She and LaNita did the Walk for Mankind every year starting in tenth grade at Booker T. Washington High School.
From there, she went to Central High School; graduating class of 1975. She was always on the Honor Roll in High School. CaRita then earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development through Tulsa Community College where she received Bronze Level.
CaRita was saved at the age of fifteen. She was the first out of all her siblings to receive the Lord into her heart. Her twin, LaNita, followed soon after. She attended Page Memorial Church of God in Christ, Bible Way, North Side Christian Center, and Church on the Move.
She worked for the state of Oklahoma for many years. Her first job was at Hissom Memorial where she enjoyed working with children. Then she worked in early childhood development for CAP-TC (Community Action Project of Tulsa County). She was also the assistant director of the after-school program at Lee Elementary for Tulsa Public Schools.
Her hobbies included watching mysteries such as Sherlock Holmes, Alfred Hitchcock, and Criminal Minds. She loved coffee and always had to have a cup in the morning.
She loved her family and spending time with her children. CaRita loved her jobs as well and excelled at them. She was a good employee. Everyone loved her, she graced us so much. She could be called a wonderful nurturer and a natural teacher. She represents love. She never complain and would literally give you the shirt off her back! She made the best fried chicken and cheesecake pies in the world. She was not one to be easily forgotten.
She also raised her niece Jenika Moses and her son Rashad (Rudy). She later married Wilbur R Casey. Through this union, three beautiful children were born: Matthew, Caylah, and Nicholas.
CaRita enjoyed life. She loved bright, beautiful days, listening to string instruments and gospel music.
CaRita was proceeded in death by her parents Norma J. Belle & Willie Lewis, step-father Houston Belle, sisters Patricia Mitchell & LaNita Hill, brothers Willie Lewis & John Lewis, step-brother Kenwood Moore and step-sister April Moore. To cherish her memory, she has left her children — Matthew, Caylah and Nicholas, her niece Jenika and her son Rudy, her brothers Norman Lewis (California), Clay Lewis & Belinda (Texas), Guy Lewis (Texas), sister Donna Henley and brother-in-love Dennis Henley (Tulsa, OK), sister Sallie Van Zandt and brother-in-love Edward Van Zandt (Mt. Pleasant, WI), sister-in-love Cheryl Lewis (Bixby, Ok), step-mother Jamesetta Lewis (Texas), and brother- in-love Otis Mitchell (Louisville, KY). A host of outstanding nephews, great-nephews & great-great-nephews, and exceptional nieces, great-nieces & great-great nieces; as well as dear relatives and friends.
