On March 20, 1954 a beautiful baby girl was born to John Newsome, Sr. and Viola Moore-Newsome in Chicago, Illinois. They lovingly named her Darlene Newsome. She was the fourth child of six children born to this union. Edward, Dennis, Charlene, Darlene, Linda, John, Jr. and Linda along with three other siblings, Loston Moore, Coston Moore and Callie Moore.

In 1957, at a tender age Darlene along with her family moved to Tulsa Oklahoma where she attended Tulsa Public Schools graduating from Central High School. She later attended Tulsa Community College and also found gainful employment with the US Postal Service for over seven years. Darlene loved praising the Lord through spiritual praise or singing Zion songs. She was always so positive even when things wasn’t the best. Darlene kept a smile on her face no matter what was going on, she got through it. Her beautiful smile that would light up the whole room.

Darlene was a member of the Living Image of Christ Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma under the leadership of Pastor Alex Kimble.

Darlene met and married Frank Jones of Tulsa, Ok in 1973, this marriage was later dissolved. She loved her children, nieces and nephews dearly. She always made people laugh and always said, what was on her mind. She raised her children in the way of the Lord and made sure that they participated whether it was, singing, dancing or playing the drums, or the piano. She was a loving and protective mother that only wanted the best for her children. When things weren’t going right in their lives she would say, Pray, God is always listening. Darlene worked very hard to be instrumental in the lives of her children and she never left their side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Darnell Mitchell, and brother, John, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, her daughter, Chantel; her grandchildren, David and Na’Veaha of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her children, Aldesha, Delsha, Dichi all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ira Dior, Delstar, Devion all of Nebraska; her siblings, Dennis of Arkansas, Charlene of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Edward Newsome of Oklahoma City, Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Loston Moore of Houston, TX, Coston Moore of Lawton, Oklahoma and Callie Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma with a host nieces, nephews of other relatives and friends.
