Ms. Yvonne Smith, In her 69th season of life, transitioned from Earth to Everlasting Life on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the St. John’s Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Yvonne was born on March 5, 1946 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to her loving parents, Calvin Adams, Sr. and Ruth Ann Adams.

She was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma until the tender age of nine. Along with her family they relocated to Chicago, Illinois residing on 65th and Aberden. She attended Illinois Public Schools graduating from Hyde Park Academy High School. She met in her late 20’s and married J. T. Smith of Mississippi in Chicago, Illinois and to this union the couple shared seven beautiful children. With dedication and love for Christ she became one of the founding members of The Sunshine Band and Christ Way Singers of Chicago.

Yvonne and J. T. returned home to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1981, where she became licensed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Pastor Lonnie Murphy of Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1983. Yvonne later became a member of Elohim Love Center Ministries of Muskogee, Oklahoma under the leadership of Pastor Steve Rucker where she remained faithful for twelve years. She later became a member of New Balm Outreach Ministries of Muskogee, Ok under the leadership Pastor Sedell Cambell until her demise.

She lastly found gainful employment and became a Nurse Aide at the Tower Hill Nursing Home of Muskogee, OK.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. T Smith and daughter, Bianca Smith She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, her children, Thurman Adams, Theodore Smith, James Smith, Shawn Slater, Shirley Beasley and Emmanuel Smith; her two siblings that she loved dearly, Shirley Harvey and Calvin Adams, Jr.; fifteen grandchildren, Kimani, Jeanne, Nicole, Jessica, Angel Dezzariyaha, Jeremiah, Destiny, Danielle, Roscoe, Jamie, Tyler, Taj, Alexiah and Nora; she has eight great-grandchildren Kimani, Jr., Adrienne, Gabrielle, Tyrese, Aubrey, Maleek, Nevaeh and Kyle. And a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Yvonne was loved by each one of them.

We rejoice because she has been awaiting this day to come so she can be with the Lord. She was confident in her favorite scripture, Corinthians 5:8 “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” knowing that she would be safe in the Arms of Jesus.
