In the year of our Lord and Savior 19 hundred and 54 on a hot summer day, July 24 in Tulsa, Oklahoma Daddy released a precious rare jewel into the care of Mr. Brooks, Sr. and L. Marie Curry. She was a beautiful baby girl. They named her Teresa Lorraine Curry, affectionately referred to as “Tee”.

Although Teresa bore such a strong resemblance to her mom she certainly inherited her Dad’s mannerisms. She was a no nonsense, Lets’ get er’ done, dry humor kind of person. She possessed a willing true servants’ heart, true to her word, without fail. You could always depend on her to do the complete to the very best of her ability any task she committed herself to.
Teresa academic flight began at John Burroughs’s Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High School, and the historic Booker T. Washington Sr. High School where she proudly graduated from the Mighty Class of “1972.” She further extended her education at the prestigious Langston University from 1972 through 1976 with sheer diligence and gaiety she accepted her rightfully earned Business Administration degree.

After graduating from Langston “Tee” landed a job a Flintco Steel as an Accounts Receivable Clerk for a number of years. She then moved to California for a span of four years reuniting with relatives residing there. She worked and attended church there as well.
Teresa’s spiritual journey began unfolding at the tender age of 12 when she decided to become a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late, Rev. M.V. “Dad” Ferguson, the late, Rev. G.A.Webb and its present pastor, Rev. Bertrand Bailey, Sr. She attended ST. Andrew from age 5 thru 22. Tee was a Jr. Usher, a member of the Youth Choir, B.T.U. and Baptist Educational Center. She attended all morning, 3’oclock and night services and Sunday school, her parents made sure of that.

Youth was her passion. After joining Love Center Christian Fellowship under the pastorage of Pastor Bill Gardner she served as Youth Pastor for 12 years during both of her pregnancies. It was there that Teresa rapidly flourished in numerous capacities and generated a stronger relationship with the Lord and she never looked back. Tee’s final membership was with World Won for Christ Church under the pastorage of Pastor Melvin Cooper. Although short lived she was sold out for Christ, a powerful intercessor and a mighty prayer warrior in full armor eager to do her part as a daughter of the Most High God and a King’s kid with redemptive rights to all God had in store for her. She was all about “FAMILY”, “RIGHTEOUNESS” AND “PEACE.” Her favorite saying was —“I FOLLOW PEACE”. Yes you did! —-There’s no place more powerful than Heaven and no place like home- At each church home, Teresa eagerly put her hand to the plow at a nonstop pace, going above and beyond the call of duty. She effortlessly served the Lord with humble wisdom and sheer gladness. She was no pew warmer. Her parents taught her and her siblings the art of tithes and offerings and being a cheerful and faithful in all you’re giving.
Teresa was gifted in drawing, sewing, multi-tasking and mothering. She was bless with multiple artistic abilities of which she used to minister to the youth, whether it be in church or at Tulsa Public Schools where she had a tenure of 15 years. She often wrote and illustrated her own children’s books and lesson plans. She spearheaded many plays, church anniversaries, fundraisers, praise dance choreography, programs, benefits ect.

In November of 1988, Teresa married Dwain “Flip” Midget. This union was blessed with two beautiful God-fearing children, Jairus Chilaka and Ambrose Briana. These two were the apple of her eye and her very heart beat. After their births it was all about them and being the kind of mother her Mom had been to her from the word “GO” Oh how she loved her babies and diligently taught them the ways of Christ. As toddlers they would quickly lay hands on you without hesitation and believe God with every ounce of their being. Although the marriage itself dissolved, both parents nurtured their children well.

A few of Tee’s finer attributes were writing soul stirring poetry, sewing, drawing, her screaming pea salad and scrumptious peach cobbler and being frugal and last the way she would gather her nieces nephews, cousins and neighboring children and just plain enjoy life, fun, laughter and one another the good old fashion way. Teresa was a beautiful caring nurturing, laid back person. “Always A Lady.”

Praise Be To God! What a joyous reunion, she has celebrated her 1st Thanksgiving with the most amazing parents ever, Mr. Brooks & Marie Curry, Sr. Others jubilantly waiting are her grandfathers, Mr. Amos Curry, Mr. James G. Broadnax, Sr. and Mr. Melvin Kelley. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

Teresa leaves behind to savor immeasurable, priceless, precious memories are her beloved children, Jarius Chilaka Midget (Nise) and Ambrose Briana (Ambi) Midget; one sister, Sharon (Wendell) Curry-Armstrong; two brothers, Brooks J. (Mary) Curry, Jr. and Michael A. Curry all of Tulsa, OK; one adopted sister/cousin (Eva Polk of Oklahoma City, Ok; two aunts, W. Jean (Henry) Hinkston of Oakland, CA., and Sandi (Huce) Brach of Akron, OH; one uncle James G. (Helen) Broadnax, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; two adopted children Eric Posey and L. Faye Springs; one adopted grandson, Nicholas Springs of California; three nieces, Roland McBee, Jemica Colbert and Brookena Curry; one nephew, Jerreko Kelly; two great — nieces, MyraKahl McBee and Brooklyn Marie Kelley; one great — nephew, R,J, Kelley, Jr. and Christian Anderson and a host of other relatives and friends.

Teresa’s existence brought light into a dark place. Our loss is truly Heaven’s gain for the word says, “Precious is the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”. She fought the good fight of faith and has now finished her course. Sleep in Heavenly peace my darling sister. Our love for you is of great magnitude, you’ve surely left your mark on us all and you will forever be missed, never and ever forgotten.
