Obituary

A beautiful baby girl names Walterine (Rene) Virginia Harris was born on July 14, 1938 in Muskogee, Oklahoma and placed into the loving arms of Walter and Velma Harris. To this union there were four children born, three boys and one girl. Walterine was a daddy’s girl. If you wanted something you would have to as her and if she was upset, you wouldn’t get it!

Walterine attended Muskogee Public Schools during her primary and secondary years. During her senior year, her family relocated to Wichita, Kansas so Walterine graduated from high school in Wichita.

Walterine was blessed to have two children, Derrick and Karen (Kay Kay). When her family began to grow, she moved to Los Angeles, California in mid 1960’s to begin a career with the Los Angeles Police Department as a Senior Administrator. She retried from Los Angeles Police department after more than fifteen years of service and returned to reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma to care for her mother. Walterine was taught at an early age to play the piano and organ. She became a pianist and organist to several churches. She played for various churches in her lifetime in California and Oklahoma. She truly had a passion for the piano, however, when she played the organ she could really make it “talk”.You knew it Walterine was seated at the organ She had a heart for family and truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was considered to be the “Peacemaker” she was a person that liked to keep the peace. In her quiet hours, she loved to crochet and do word search puzzles.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Fred Dean, her children ; Derrick and Karen, one brother, Charles Harris, two step sisters, Linda Washington-Harris and Gayla Fuller; five beautiful grandchildren, Jenae’ Bruce, Quincy Hunter, Qianna Hunter, Andrew Bruce, and Dashawn Bruce, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
