Reflections of Life

A Time to Be Born
Roy Leis Barnett “Peewee” was born April 5, 1972 to the late Roy B. Barnett and Betty L. Barnett in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His life exemplified the principles of Christ, Family, Education, Community Service and prosperity.

A Time To Grow
Roy received his early education as a product of Tulsa Public School. He graduated from the nationally acclaimed Booker T.Washington High School in 1990. As a proud Hornet, he enjoyed being a student, and supporting the BTW Hornets Football Team.

After graduation he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, in Norman Ok. where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Master of Arts Degree and as PH.D. Roy enjoyed being a student and his education journey was one of excellence. Roy was a life long learner,and he wanted to share his wealth of knowledge with everyone. When it came to Technology, he was one of the best.

A Time to Gain
His career started at the University of Oklahoma. He served their for four years before relocating to Kansas, and taking as a Professor, with Kansas
State University from 2001 until his passing. Roy believed in giving back to the community. He was involved with the
Black Faculty Staff Alliance, served as Faculty Advisor for the Criminology Club, and Faculty Mentor for McNair Scholars Program. His passion was helping people make this a better place in which to live.

A Time To Love
When Roy met Shannon, the love of his life, they became inseprable. A fifteen year loving relationship that stood the test of time. Shannon his loving partner was there with him during his final days.. His maternal and paternal grandparents, along with his Father Roy B. Barnett, along with other family members met him at heavens gate.

A Time to Embrace
Roy will forever be loved and dearly missed by his partner Shannon Castleberry, his mother Betty L. Barnett, his siblings Michael
E. Holmes, Sandra Harris (Donde, Cosetta Barnett all of Tulsa, Paulette Holmes, Las Vegas, NV; his uncles Harold (Jovaugn) Walton; Clarence (Quinn) Walton, Omaha, NE; his aunts,
Willa Holmes Willa Holmes, Tulsa, Ok. Rebecca Holmes, Omaha, NE, nieces Jemica (Chris) Calhoun Tia Holmes, Tulsa, Ok; his nephews, Rico (Jasmine)Holmes, Virgil Williams, Gary Williams special nieces Zionna Serenity, Tianna, Amair, Caylon, great nephews Joshua, Elijah, Jaydan, Taylor, Jordan Rayan Deontre, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A Time Of Peace…
At the close of day of September 28, 2012, at 10:30 in the evening, God called Roy’s name, and he surrendered his soul, and went home to eternal rest.

Viewing for Mr. Barnett will be held on Friday October 5, 2012 at Dyer Chapel. 1:00-7:00 pm.

Services will be held at Sanctuary Evangelistic Temple Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 12:30 pm.

  2. I Feel So Bless To Be A Part Of Roy’S Extended Family. I Have Truely Witness A Young Child Grow Up To Become A Awesome Man! My Aunt Betty Done A Wonderful Job, And I Know She Is Very Proud Of Him. We All Are Proud Of Peewee Accomplishments. What I Remember Is The Time When Uncle Roy Took Peewee, Micheal, My Son Rabbit And I To A Wrestling Match At The Convention Center In Tulsa. We Had A Great Time. It Was A Comforting Feeling To Hear So Many People (Young And Old) Speak Well About Peewee. Professor Roy Barnett! Thanks For Making A Positive Difference In Today’S Society.
