Obituary
Mrs. Vernell Barnett- Tiger was born in Oktaha, Oklahoma on November 8, 1921. She was the third child of eight born to Rev. Ulysses Simpson Barnett Sr. and Elnora Phillips Barnett.
She completed her education in Oktaha, Oklahoma and was employed by Renberg’s and Field’s Department Stores. She also worked many other jobs in the Tulsa area.
Vernell enjoyed elegant things in her home. She also enjoyed gardening, fine jewelry and clothing. In her later years Vernell met and married Raymond Tiger. To that union no children were born.
Vernell accepted Christ at an early age. She later joined Mt.Zion Baptist Church.
She loved her pastor and her church family. Vernell was a member of the Mable B. Little Missionary Circle. Vernell was active until her health failed.
Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother Ulysses Jr. (Teddy boy), four sisters Frances Reed, Etta Counts, Mable Jones, Maudine Barnett and her husband Raymond.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters; Elizabeth Samuels of Muskogee, OK, an Katherine Chapman of Minneapolis, MN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 30, 2011 1:00-7:00 pm.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:00 in the morning at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 419 N. Elgin Street Tulsa Oklahoma. Dr. Cole, Host Pastor.
